Sewer Department
The Melrose Sewer Department maintains nearly 3 ½ miles of gravity fed sewer lines that run to a single lift station located Southeast of Mill Street. There is an additional 1 ½ miles worth of force main travelling from the lift station to the sewage treatment plant located South of Highway 54.
Treatment Plant
The Treatment Plant fills two sewage lagoons equipped with blowers to supply adequate airflow. From May 1st through September 30th discharge from the lagoons are chlorinated to kill fecal bacteria in order to protect recreation on the Black River. The lagoon system was built in 1983 and at that time had a life-expectancy of 20 years. Being well-beyond the life expectancy of the system, the Village is taking steps to modernize the sewage treatment system and taking steps to remove sludge from the two sewage lagoons.
